IANA Statement on Introduction of the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026
CALVERTON, MD (October 5, 2026) — IANA welcomes the bipartisan work of Senators Shelley Moore Capito, Sheldon Whitehouse, Mike Lee and Martin Heinrich to advance meaningful reforms to the federal permitting process.
“Efficient, predictable permitting is essential to building and modernizing the infrastructure that keeps freight moving and the U.S. economy competitive,” said Anne Reinke, President and CEO of the Intermodal Association of North America. “We commend the bipartisan work that went into this legislation and encourage the Senate to move it forward. We also urge the House and Senate to quickly reconcile their respective approaches and send legislation to the President that preserves the strongest reforms from both bills.”
Reinke added, “As Congress continues this work, we encourage lawmakers to apply the same focus to transportation-specific permitting reforms. Whether through the upcoming surface transportation reauthorization or other legislation, accelerating responsible reviews and approvals for freight and transportation infrastructure should be part of the broader permitting reform conversation.”
