Smartway Transport Partnership
The EPA's SmartWay is a collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and goods movement stakeholders which provides a framework to assess emissions and energy efficiency, and recognizes superior environmental performance.
The SmartWay Transport Partnership programs result in significant, measurable air quality and/or greenhouse gas improvements while maintaining or improving current levels of other emissions and/or pollutants.
EPA launched the SmartWay Drayage Program on June 28, 2011 at the Port of Charlston, South Carolina with the Coalition for Responsible Transportation and the Environmental Defense Fund. The SmartWay Drayage Program recognizes Partners for reducing diesel emissions from port drayage trucks.The SmartWay Drayage Program recognizes partners for reducing diesel emissions from port drayage trucks. Drayage is defined as the short distance transport of containerized freight goods between marine or rail terminals and local distribution centers.
