Intermodal Information Services
Global Intermodal Equipment Registry (GIER)—The GIER solution is a central database where all intermodal equipment in use throughout North America and subject to the “Roadability” regulations, are registered. GIER was specifically designed to meet the equipment marking options as found in the Section 390.21, Part 390 of the final “roadability” regulations issued under Docket No. FMCSA-2005-23315.
This web-based portal with supporting applications provides a central system to record ownership and operating control of equipment for use by the industry and public sector (federal, state, and local enforcement personnel) to determine compliance with the new FMCSA roadability regulations.
The system provides:
- An industry-sponsored virtual, technology solution to meet FMCSA regulations requiring identification of intermodal equipment and the IEP responsible for maintenance and repair of that equipment.
- A central database where all intermodal equipment subject to the regulations and in use throughout US are registered utilizing the current alphanumeric equipment ID number.
- A web portal to determine ownership and operating control of intermodal equipment.
- Accessibility defined for all industry stakeholders including FMCSA and state and local enforcement personnel.
